On April 22, 2021, Die Jim Crow Records (DJC) and UMAW launched a gear drive to support incarcerated musicians.

As of 5/29/21, we have received 88 responses to our intake form and sent out 22 pieces of gear. We will be posting updates as we go along.

UPDATE 1 5/29/21.

Currently, we have requests for:

• CD burner
• Soprano saxophone
• Akai MPC1
• R24 sequencer
• Pickups for acoustic guitars
• 16 channel sound board
• Wireless microphone equipment

Gear we could always use more of:

• Guitars, basses, keyboards
• Picks of varying hardness
• Guitar, bass and keyboard amps
• MIDI cables
• Pocket operators
• Boss pedal standard 9v adaptors
• 1 spot daisy chain power adaptors

Our intake form for instrument and gear donations can be found HERE or by clicking below.

Once this form is completed, we will reach out to you about whether or not we can intake your gear and next steps.

Expect a response time of 1 to 2 weeks (this is a volunteer-run effort).

Monetary donations can also be made to support the shipping of donated gear and the purchase of additional gear. If you cannot donate gear but would like to make a monetary donation, payments can be made HERE or by clicking below.

Mission:

Prisons across the country too often lack access to quality instruments and proper environments for making music. Our mission for the Instruments Into Prisons campaign is to supply DJC-affiliated musicians and non-affiliated alike with tools outlet to express their creativity while serving time. For some, this may be the remainder of their life.

Most donations of gear for music production and performance will be utilized (and then some) by these musicians. Currently our queue includes the following prisons:

- Arkansas Valley Correctional Facility (members of TERRITORIAL), Colorado
- Allendale Correctional Facility (members of THE MASSES), South Carolina
- San Quentin State Prison, California
- Osh Kosh Correctional Institution, Wisconsin
