Announcing “Office Hours”: A coast-to-coast educational series by The Rising Artist Foundation and United Musicians and Allied Workers
August 30, 2024 – Office Hours is a free educational series with a rotating roster of industry guest speakers and artists. This monthly series is a joint project of The Rising Artist Foundation and United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) to present honest information on how to navigate the music industry. For independent and emerging artists without a thoughtful team, this knowledge is hard to find and often harder to understand. This series aims to bridge that gap and help working artists thrive.
This series is launching with four pilot programs: DIY Booking, Masters + Publishing 101, Mental Health for Artists, and End-of-Year Finance Tips. The sessions will alternate between Los Angeles and New York. Each session will be livestreamed and recorded for future viewing, with highlights optimized for socials. Every session will also directly influence development of a public resource (budget templates, glossaries, how-to’s, etc.) as a reference for artists everywhere — like this record contract FAQ. These sessions connect artists of multiple levels —irl and online — to collectively gather, learn and network with one another. While these first four serve as pilot programs, the organizations are actively seeking partners to continue these monthly sessions and expand to host them in other cities nationwide.
Both The Rising Artist Foundation and UMAW are nonprofits with an ambition to change the economic, creative and social injustices within the music industry. Programs like this enable them to connect with individual artists and generate a strong community while also engaging in the fight for structural improvement for artists in the United States.
