We, the coalition of undersigned organizations, strongly support the passage of the Austin Parks and Recreation Board recommendation titled, “Recommend that the City of Austin Council Support a Fair Pay for SXSW Performing Artists.” We believe this recommendation will be a meaningful step toward ensuring fair working conditions for cultural workers in the City of Austin.

The Union of Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) has announced it will be escalating its Fair Pay at SXSW campaign with two events in Austin during the week of the SXSW music festival: a showcase on March 14 at Hole in the Wall, and a protest rally on March 16 outside the Austin Convention Center.

Who We Are

United Musicians and Allied Workers (UMAW) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit that has mobilized thousands of music workers to take part in our first actions around the COVID crisis, and we will continue to organize around issues such as demanding fairer deals from streaming services, ensuring musicians receive the royalties they are owed, establishing more just relationships with labels, and creating safer guidelines for venues.
